Dexter was Adopted!

Dexter at 3 weeks of age (above),

and at his 1st birthday party (in the blue collar)

We adopted Dex almost a year ago from Out of the Pits. He was one of 9 puppies found with their mother in The Bronx. The puppies were only days old, their eyes hadn’t even opened yet, and momma was skin and bones. The family was fostered by Bonnie of A Place For Us. At 3 weeks old, we picked the only chocolate male in the litter, and at 8 weeks we brought him home.

Dexter has grown from a little peanut into the big handsome dog you see here. He is a wonderful addition to our doggy family, and those first few sleepless weeks with a newly weaned puppy were completely worth it! Some of Dexter and Charlotte ’s favorite activities include: swimming in the pond, chasing sticks, taking long walks, snuggling and watching football.

Thank you for all you do for these wonderful dogs, and thank you for giving us this wonderful puppy!

Mandy was Adopted!

"Luna Bear"

Below is a letter from the family that adopted Mandy. Mandy was a dog we rescued from a shelter in New Jersey in the April. One of the shelter workers slept outside her cage to prevent her from being euthanized. She was terribly thin and suffered from a bad case of mange and her ears were cut off. She was fostered by Rebecca, who eventually adopted her, as she and her family love her so much they cannot imagine their lives without her.

Mandy, now named Luna Bear, has gained a lot of weight and has blossomed into a confident and happy dog who loves to play with their other dog, Samson. She is still overcoming some mange, but it is much better than when she first arrived.

"Thank you for this opportunity. Thank you for introducing us to our love; she is everything to us. It took us a long time to understand that we are capable of giving her what she needs... and that indeed we have been giving her what she needs all along.

She has honestly given us just as much, if not more than we have provided. You, Out of the Pits, have provided not just Mandy a new life, but us as well. She has changed everything. She is an amazing being with a spectacular soul. Thank you for saving her, thank you for her love, and thank you for all you give to all of these very special dogs."

Rebecca, Chris, and Samson.

Tye was Adopted!

Tye’s owners say that his story is BEYOND a happy ending: He is the love of our lives. How wonderful this dog is made us wonder how at 6 months he still hadn't been found a "forever home" but rather was in foster care for 3+ months. His foster mom, Sue, told us that he did have people come to look at him....but there were no takers. He is a kind, sweet, gentle old soul.

Actually, he thinks he's a person...not a dog. We finally came to the conclusion that no one else took him because he was meant for us. We love and adore him and think he feels the same about us - it was a perfect match! We were very lucky. We recently celebrated his "Gotcha Day" on August 23rd. Buddy was found on the streets in Harlem at 3 months old and picked up by Animal Care & Control - the facility he was taken to gives them 72 hours before they euthanize due to the high volume of dogs (mostly pit bulls). He was lucky enough to have someone pull him out, foster him, and finally place him in his "forever home” with my sister in NYC.

What's amazing is that these 2 dogs, with entirely different backgrounds, different issues, and A LOT of training are absolutely in love with each other. Buddy is now 3 and he 'mothers' Tye, and Tye in turn, idolizes Buddy. They are attached at the hip when Buddy makes his way to CT from NYC for the weekend.
