Ebony was
adopted in October 2000 into a home that already
included 4 other dogs- a cairn terrier, a fox terrier,
and two greyhounds. I had learned about Out of the Pits
from my friend Mary Allen and I had off-handedly told
her that if she ever came across a dog that would fit
into my canine family to let me know. I never expected
to have her call me a few weeks later to say she had the
“perfect dog” for me.
I met Ebony
a few weeks later and finalized the adoption in October
2000 when she was about 7 months old. Ebony settled in
almost immediately- especially bonding to the male fox
terrier who was about 10 at the time. For the next 6
years they were best buds. She has never shown any
aggression to a dog or person and always has a wagging
tail and smiling face when she meets a new dog. Since I
do greyhound rescue work Ebony began going to the weekly
greyhound walk where she charmed the other owners and
helped to change their perceptions of pit bulls. She has
lived peacefully-as the lowest ranking dog- through 10
years of fluctuating canine personalities and numbers
since I often foster dogs right off the track. She even
went to Dewey Beach DE for the annual Greyhounds Reach
the Beach weekend and got along with everyone- humans
and dogs.
She is by
my side every night and hopefully will be for many more
years.
Thanks Out
of the Pits!
