Now that their three-month foster period is over, many of these great dogs are
now available for adoption. Please stay tuned as we add them to our adoption
pages over the next two weeks. Our volunteers have spent extensive time with
each dog over the past months. We now know each dog very well and we continue
to be amazed by them. Seldom have we encountered such an outstanding group of
animals.
And please watch for four new additions - beautiful dogs brought up from the gulf by Rose, Bonnie, Kim and Megan who went back to Tylertown, MS last week to help with the many pit bulls still left homeless. Ryder, a playful 8 month old Lab/Pit Bull is the first of these to be posted. Look for him on our adoption pages. |

SkipperMale - 58 lbs Our little "water dog" has come a long way since the day he was plucked from the waters of New Orleans emaciated and terrified. Skipper is a real love bug - greets each newcomer with his classic helicopter tail. He's a real 'energizer bunny" - loves to toss his toys into the air then catch them. But he also loves to climb up into your lap. Skipper is sensitive, responsive and very eager to please. Read Skipper's story here! |

RoseFemale - 64 lbs. This three-year-old is our "perfect angel". She loves to be held and petted, is great with other dogs. Everyone who meets this dog wants to foster and/or adopt her. We have never had a dog garner so much instant love. |
SidMale - 55 lbs LOVES to play with his tennis ball tossing it into the air and chasing after it again and again. This drop-dead gorgeous male with a deep red coat has clearly had some obedience training and is basically a very well-behaved dog. Sid has that very special regal look that one encounters every once in awhile in very special pit bulls. |
DanielleFemale - 40 lbs Danielle is our little enchantress. She's a ball of energy but her compelling personality and sweet nature win the heart of everybody who meets her. Danielle is a bit nervous with some men so we are working very hard on socialization with this lovely little dog. She is being treated for heartworm and we expect a complete recovery. |
TimmyMale - 55 lbs This great young dog was reunited with his New Orleans' family during Out of the Pits' second trip to work with the dogs in the Gulf. As our RV pulled into the Best Friends' parking lot our Timmy came alive with excitement with the ecstatic cries of "There he is" as his family spotted him in the window. What a great privilege it is to witness the boundless joy of seeing a dog back in the arms of those that he loves. |
BunkerMale - 60 lbs. Bunker is a stocky little guy that LOVES people. He got his name because he dug a bunker for himself at the Tylertown Rescue Facility to stay cool in the 100 degree temperatures. |
SwingerMale - 60 lbs Swinger is friendly and full of energy. This beautiful fawn male with soulful amber eyes is a total cuddlebug. He'll do anything to give you a hug. |
Little JoeyMale - 40 lbsLittle Joey is only six or seven months old. He loves to play fetch with his tennis ball - he loves to do anything at all that involves being with people. This little guy should move into foster care as soon as possible. He's at the right age to learn a lot about life and he's ready to become a fantastic obedience performer. |
BonnieFemale - 55 lbs.Our beautiful Bonnie is one of the very fortunate Katrina survivors who was reunited with her family. It was a glorious day for all of us when we watched this faithful girl who had waited and waited. She become ecstatic with joy when her New Orleans family climbed out of their car and ran to hold their beloved dog for the first time since she was lost to them on that terrible day. We will never forget this moment! |
RickyMale - 76 lbs. A big ol' ga-lump of a dog. He may be the most laid-back dog ever to be rescued by Out of the Pits. Nothing unsettles this big guy. Nothing! |
