We were not planning on
adopting another dog. We had been fostering Samantha for
about 3 months when our beloved Hannah passed away suddenly
and unexpectedly.
Sammy had been looking for a home for over
a year and a half, with barely an applicant. None of us
could understand why this beautiful dog was being
overlooked. Was it her stoic personality at adoption
clinics? Was it because she was black? Was it because of her
serious intensity? We'll never know, but my husband and I
decided that she should stay with us and our pack, as she
was fitting in just wonderfully.
Samantha had earned her
Canine Good Citizen title as my foster dog, and soon after
adopting her we took the Therapy Dog Incorporated test,
which she too passed easily. Samantha has been visiting
schools and manning the Out of the Pits kissing booth ever
since. That's not bad for a stray dog who spent over a year
in a kennel.
We are certain that she will follow in our
Hannah's footsteps as a great breed ambassador and loving
therapy dog.
