After finding out
that the dogs at Out of the Pits needed gently used blankets and
towels, Annie Lee Vankleek, age 6, made it her mission to fulfill
that need. And her efforts have just made her a grand prize winner
in the American Humane Association’s “Be Kind to Animals Week”
contest.
Annie applied for a
spot at the town’s annual Olive Day festival, and sat there all day,
collecting used blankets and towels. She went to yard sales and
persuaded people to donate their blankets, or she bought them. She
collected blankets and towels at school. And she is still going
strong. For her upcoming 7th birthday party, Annie is
asking her guests to forego bringing her gifts, and bring towels and
blankets for “the doggies” instead.
And sharing
Annie’s birthday party this year will be her beloved Ike, the pit
bull she and her family met on the day they delivered the very first
load of blankets to Out of the Pits.
Thank
you
Annie on behalf of all of the dogs at Out of the Pits that you have
helped this year!
